This South Fort Myers courtyard renovation by Olde Florida Contracting transformed an existing outdoor space into a warm, inviting gathering area — complete with a custom wood-burning fireplace, roof extension, tongue-and-groove ceiling, and new Mexican clay tile flooring.

Designed to enhance both comfort and curb appeal, this project perfectly blends craftsmanship, structural precision, and Florida-style outdoor living.

Project Overview

The goal for this South Fort Myers home was to create a covered courtyard with a see-through fireplace, offering year-round usability and an elegant focal point. Our team managed every stage of construction — from concrete work and framing to finish details like custom screening and ceiling installation.

Demolition & Site Preparation

We began by removing the gutters, soffit, and fascia in the area where the new roof extension would be built. Portions of the existing slab were saw-cut and removed to make way for new reinforced concrete footers, ensuring a strong structural base for the roof and masonry walls.

Concrete & Masonry Construction

Our crew poured new footers and slabs, followed by masonry knee walls per the engineered plans. These elements form the foundation for the courtyard’s walls and chimney structure, supporting the new roof extension and fireplace assembly.

Framing & Roofing

The new roof section was wood-framed with a sloped design that seamlessly ties into the existing home.
Features include:

  • Laminated roof beam and 5/8″ OSB sheathing
  • 2×6 fascia and engineered tie-downs
  • Framed chimney opening per manufacturer specs
  • Matching shingles installed to complement the existing roof
  • The existing arched entryway was preserved, maintaining the home’s original architectural character.

Custom Wood-Burning Fireplace

At the heart of the new courtyard is a FireRock see-through wood-burning fireplace, providing warmth and ambiance from both sides of the space. Key features include:

  • FireRock firebox with red fire brick liner
  • Metal chimney pipe and termination cap
  • Custom chimney surround and flashing
  • Stainless steel chimney pipe (14 feet)
  • Custom mantel installation

This fireplace serves as a stunning centerpiece, blending traditional craftsmanship with modern durability.

Interior Finishes & Lighting

Electrical work included new circuits, can lighting, ceiling fans, and a feature chandelier. Wall sconces were roughed-in for future installation, and outlets were repositioned for optimal use of the space.

The ceiling features pine tongue-and-groove planks with coordinating trim — approximately 650 square feet of natural wood finish for a warm, timeless look.

Flooring & Stucco Work

The new courtyard floor was finished with 16×16 pre-sealed Mexican clay tiles, professionally installed and grouted for a rustic, old-world aesthetic. Stucco was applied to the fireplace and chimney, both inside and out, blending seamlessly with the home’s existing texture and color palette.

Screen Enclosure & Finishing Details

To complete the space, custom sliding screen doors and panels were installed, allowing for airflow while keeping the courtyard protected from bugs and debris. New soffit, fascia, and gutter connections completed the roofline for a clean, polished finish.

Bringing Indoor Comfort Outdoors

This South Fort Myers courtyard transformation is a showcase of Olde Florida Contracting’s expertise in outdoor living construction — combining luxury finishes with functional design. The result is a welcoming, covered courtyard perfect for entertaining or relaxing beside a real wood-burning fire.
